Dead Men Wag No Tails review

This is the second book in the Magical Menagerie series by well-known cozy mystery author, Sarah Fox. I loved this series when it started last year and I was super happy to read this second book which definitely didn’t disappoint. I like how Georgie and Callum are growing closer and how the dogs and Euclid the resident owl always seem to help when Georgie’s investigating. I can’t wait for the next book!

Dead Men Wag No Tails (Magical Menagerie Mystery #2)Dead Men Wag No Tails by Sarah Fox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

When I read the first book last year, it took me no time at all to fall in love with these characters and the setting, so it was like meeting up with old friends again when I read this book. I love that Georgie’s smart and self-assured (in most things) but she’s not afraid to ask anyone when she needs with something. Those sweet dogs are amazing like their owl friend Euclid. And a visiting parrot seemed to hold the key to something important with the murder case.

I was glad to see Georgie and Callum growing closer and that she was feeling more confident that he was actually happy with her. The ending was really sweet and since they talked about a Halloween themed event coming up, I hope that’s the theme of the next book! It should be tons of fun!

Murder Most Owl review

This is the first in an awesome new series, Magical Menagerie Mysteries by another cozy fave author, Sarah Fox who cozy fans know from her Pancake House Mysteries and the Literary Pub Mysteries. I really enjoyed these characters and the critters as well and eagerly look forward to the next book!

Murder Most Owl (Magical Menagerie Mystery, #1)Murder Most Owl by Sarah Fox
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This was absolutely so good! I didn’t want it to end and loved how everything even the small side mysteries were nicely wrapped up and explained. I really love the dynamics that developed between Georgie and her new love interest. Olivia was an awesome character too, as I’ve found all the characters I’ve read in this author’s various series.

I loved the idea of the animals having special talents rather than the other way around. It was a fun change from the usual witch and talking familiars. Those dogs were just amazing and so lovable. I do love cats but having the dogs being the magical ones was extra fun. I’m not a fan of birds in general, but Euclid was a pretty awesome owl, and I’d sure never turn down his help in ditching bad people lol. I can’t wait for another book in this series! I sure hope the author and publisher have one or more planned!

A Crust to Die For review

This is the second book in the Tiffany Austin Food Blogger Mysteries by T.C. LoTempio, an author who writes about awesome main characters and their pets, usually cats, so I was happy to see a little King Charles Cavalier named Cooper in addition to a gorgeous Siamese named Lily when I started reading this series. I love how those two get along so well. And I’m loving how their human’s apparently found someone she really likes too! Can’t wait to read the next book since the ending gave a slight hint as to what we might expect.

This has had many awesome red herrings and rabbit holes to explore but I did start putting some of the items together right and solved right along with Tiff. I love that she and the detective were in a good place unlike what she’d been afraid of. I felt bad for Hilary’s poor sister being right in the middle of the murder investigation, but only Hilary’s awesome friend would even dream of trying to prove her bestie’s sister innocent.

That was some wild showdown and someone got to prove themselves useful after being thought of as not so useful. Bartell’s a sweetie and always acted grateful for Tiff helping. The ending was really sweet!

A Sense for Murder review

This is the sixth book in the Sally Solari Mysteries by Leslie Karst, and I’ve kept up with the series from the beginning to its return with a different publisher in the previous book. Sally was up to her ears in the new murder since she was at the event when it happened. As always, she wouldn’t give up and or back down to anyone. Go Sally!

Sorry I couldn’t give a link to the series since somehow this was added to Goodreads without adding it to the series, but you can see all the books on Leslie Karst’s bio page.

A Sense for Murder (Sally Solari #6)A Sense for Murder by Leslie Karst
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another murder and Sally was on the case again, this time with Eric who was getting kinda disgruntled with his own job and didn’t seem as anxious to get her away from the case this time. I had someone in mind once the pieces started falling together and I was right about whodunit. It was great to visit a little with Nichole and Mei this time too and while they weren’t in the book for much of the time, the time they did spend was very useful!

The showdown was really awesome! Sally came prepared with backup, so said backup effectively took care of the perp while the police got there. The side story of Sally missing her Aunt Letta was kinda sad and sweet because of what she and Eric were planning as far as moving in together. They’d kept coming to a standstill since Sally absolutely wouldn’t give up Letta’s house, and I can’t say I blame her for that. Leave it to Dad to have an awesome solution that made everyone happy.

Eat, Drink and Drop Dead review

This is the first book in a brand new series, Tiffany Austin Food Blogger (sorry, Goodreads doesn’t have a series page up for it so no link for that) by established cozy mystery author, T.C. LoTempio. Her longest running and probably most well-known is the Nick & Nora Mysteries. I still need to start the Nick & Nora series and probably have most of them in some form or another. This lady always writes an awesome mystery with adorable pets!

Anything I’ve read by this author always has characters you’d like to have as friends and storylines that pull me in right away. And this book didn’t disappoint in either of those things. I really enjoyed meeting Tiffany and her coworkers at the magazine. Hilary was such an awesome bestie. I don’t think there’s anything that girl wouldn’t do for her buddy, Tiff as you’ll read when they go sleuthing. And Hilary was very good when it came to enabling Tiff on dating a certain handsome detective. Dale was the kind of boss anybody would just love to have. He was fair and easy to get along with…and he didn’t mind hybrid employees as long as they came to the staff meetings.

The mystery was a good one and I was stumped until a clue came along toward the end of the book. Then I knew exactly whodunit possibly a little sooner than Tiffany did. That was one good showdown too, and the ending was super sweet. I can’t wait for more in this series!

The Fragrance of Death review

This is the fifth book in the Sally Solari Mysteries (this is the first 4) by Leslie Karst who was luckily able to get a new publisher to continue the series. It ended in 2019 with the previous publisher, so the link I added is to the first four books, but you can get to this one from my Goodreads review below. It was great visiting Sally, her dad, Nonna, Javier and the whole gang in Santa Cruz again. I just love Sally’s dad! He’s such an awesome character, and I love that he’s happy with Abby his girlfriend. I hope the new publisher wants to let Sally’s tales continue! Readers can help support that by buying the book or borrowing it from your library and leaving reviews too! If your library takes suggestions, you can always suggest they get the hardback or on Overdrive I know my library lets us submit suggestions for e-book buys.

The Fragrance of Death (A Sally Solari Mystery, 5)The Fragrance of Death by Leslie Karst
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I was thrilled to find out that the author found another publisher and was going to continue Sally’s stories! I think any Sally fan might agree we’ve been a little starved for one of our fave cozy chef characters, so this book definitely didn’t disappoint. But poor Sally had the most horrible dilemma any chef could imagine: loss of taste and smell. It didn’t help if a dish got goofed up or something even worse happened because of said loss.

To keep her mind off her own issues, Sally was investigating again when the guy next to her at the Artichoke Contest was killed. There was a fairly long list of wannabe killers and even the police had trouble zoning in on which one offed the guy. But our Sally girl wouldn’t be deterred even with attempts on her life going on.

Meanwhile, Sally had some relationship changes going on, and I gotta say I’m not unhappy with what ended up happening and wasn’t completely surprised. The showdown was pretty exciting and I thought it was really cool how Sally caught her perp. Sally, I hope your adventures are able to continue, it’s been awesome catching back up!
