All Spooked Up review

This is the first in a brand new series, Haunted Paint Store Mysteries by a familiar cozy mystery author, E.J. Copperman (pen name for author Jeff Cohen). I’ve read some of his Mysterious Detective and Haunted Guesthouse series and always enjoyed his sense of humor that comes through so well in his characters, so the characters in this book naturally seemed like friends to me almost as soon as I met them. I’m really excited to read the next book now.

Now that Laura’s got a paint shop ghost aka her dad, I think she should have a dog there too. I’m sure the dog could sense Amos and they’d be good buddies.

I really enjoyed meeting Laura and her husband Roy’s characters. It’s so few and far between that you get to read about a happily married couple doing the sleuthing in a mystery, and I really liked that. The detective was an acquired taste, but he was a good guy overall. And I just loved Amos’s ghost—he was awesome especially something he did toward the end.

The showdown was a good one, and it was cool how both Laura and Roy faced off with the killer. Laura had been going to therapy since she thought she was seeing things when her dad’s ghost started hanging around. Maybe once she admits he’s really a ghost, she won’t need sessions anymore, but at least the therapist, Abby, had a wicked little sense of humor as could be seen at the very end. I absolutely can’t wait for the next book.

Crescent City Christmas Chaos review

This is the fourth book in the Vintage Cookbook Mysteries by another fave cozy author, Ellen Byron. It’s also another series I’ve read from the very beginning. I was so happy when the previous book was announced as getting a new publishing house since it looked like it wasn’t gonna continue with the previous.

I loved this author’s Cajun Country Mysteries and it seems whenever she writes a book set in Louisiana, I always find a reason to wanna explore something a little more online. This time I wanted to see just what a shotgun cottage looked like. I was surprised and happy to discover we’d seen these types of cottages this summer while driving through the French Quarter and on the way there. Yay for learning something new–and having already seen it. Back to the book, I can’t wait for the next one to come now now!

Wow Ricki was one busy shopkeeper this Christmas season, but this time it seemed like she was gone more than being there. She had all her virtual plates spinning in the air as she tackled running the shop, helping her friends with a cookbook project, sleuthing a murder case, and she tried to squeeze in time for her parents as well as Virgil.
The folks were in since Luis was being Virgil’s cameraman for his food show special. Toss in a random bandit going around stealing stuff dressed as NOLA’s beloved snowman character, and I’m surprised Ricki didn’t wave a white flag or tell them to stick a fork in her, she’s done lol. When she and some friends came face to face with a killer, one friend surprised them all by saving the day. Eventually the bandit was caught and Ricki got an amazing Christmas surprise. Can’t wait for the next book now!

A Brew for Chaos review

This is the third and long-awaited book in the Enchanted Bay Mystery series by Esme Addison, and I absolutely loved it! It took a little while to get reacquainted with everyone, but it didn’t take super long for me to remember what I liked about each character. I’d love to see more books in the series!

I loved the first two books in this series, then it took a hiatus, but since I get the author’s newsletter, I knew it was gonna return at some point. This book was bigger than the first two combined with shocking revelations and secrets, but there was plenty of family love, support and togetherness going on as well. There were so many different things happening, it was hard to trust anyone except for the main players meaning Alex and her immediate family. Her boyfriend Jack had a secret, his mother had one she didn’t realize she had, there was a murder and a friend of Alex’s was looking into an old cold case. But there was an epic showdown, and help came for Alex from a really unexpected but super welcome source. After the very ending, I’m so eager now to read the next book!

Murder on the Books review

This is the first book in a new series shown on Amazon as A Cozy Bookshop Mystery (no series shown on GR yet and the Amazon link isn’t an affiliate), and the author’s cozy mystery writer and cat lover, T.C. LoTempio aka Toni in her newsletters. I’ve loved all the cats I’ve read about in her series, and Poe in this series was definitely not a disappointment. In fact he was a hero just like Purrday in the Urban Pet Shop mysteries. Since the incorrect author was linked on GR, I looked up Ms. LoTempio’s GR page from her other books for her link above. I’m having a GR librarian friend look into it.

I really enjoyed this new setting and the key characters of Charley and Zane a lot. Charley was just what Zane had needed coming back to her hometown since Zane’s business partner basically ghosted her. Charley soon found out why and the hunt for a killer began. I loved that cat Poe that Charley adopted who quickly became an amazing little buddy for her, and big asset in the showdown! It’s awesome how any cat this author has in her various series is both a great buddy for the sleuth and helps tremendously with the showdown.

Charley was used to following clues but they were always clues she was in charge of writing, so this amateur sleuthing thing was pretty new for both her and Zane. She definitely held her own with the killer in the showdown, with a certain kitty’s help, of course. The ending was too fun since a certain female police officer who Zane and Charley went to school with was nearly throwing herself at the detective in charge. But he seemed to only have eyes for Charley—and the woman’s reaction was pretty funny. Can’t wait to read the next book!

French Quarter Fright Night review

This is the third book in the Vintage Cookbook Mysteries by Ellen Byron, and I’m so glad it found a new home with a different publisher. I sure hope it’s continuing but if not, this was a really good way to end the trilogy. I’ll have to stay tuned to the newsletter the author sends out to see what’s going on with the series. Halloween in NOLA, is there anyplace crazier to party for Halloween? LOL

I was so happy when this series got a new publishing home since I was definitely not done being caught up in NOLA with these amazing characters. I hope there’s more to come since there’s one continuing mystery that got solved, but I can see tons more stories for these folks.

This book was especially cool taking place during October leading up to Halloween in NOLA. It was a great armchair vacation as well as a twisty, fun mystery. I hadn’t seen the whodunit coming until it was there, and the showdown was short but effective. I love how Ricki had taken intern Olivia under her wing like a younger sister, but I was never sure Liv appreciated it until toward the end. A cute side story about a kitten had a good ending and while I’ve only known this author to use an epilogue when she’s ending a series, I really, really hope this one isn’t ending! It nicely wrapped up the three books, but I guess it’s just hard to let go of characters we’ve come to like so much as readers. Hoping for more but pretty happy with the ending if this was it.
