This is the thirteenth full-length novel in the Candy-Coated series by Nancy CoCo and it’s been a fave series of mine that I’ve followed from the beginning. I even got to go to Mackinac Island seven years ago and took the latest at that time book in the series with me to read there, it was too cool. I loved the Island Bookstore and got to see the library that was part of the scenes in this book. I can’t wait to go back someday!

Technically, Amazon’s calling the book of previously released Christmas novellas book 13 and labeling this as #14. Goodreads has the book of novellas as #12.5 so whichever numbering floats your boat, there you go, lol.

When Allie’s mom and relatives showed up too early for Allie and Rex’s wedding, I was ready to have a word with the woman myself, lol. But Jenn as bestie and wedding planner went to bat for Allie more than once, and I was proud of Allie herself for finally standing up to the ridiculousness her mom insisted on with some things.

And of course it wouldn’t be our Allie without her getting involved in a murder investigation. I’ve been to the Mackinac Library and thought it was really cool that some of the scenes were in there—such an awesome place! Unfortunately outside was where the murder scene ended up and this time I hadn’t guessed whodunit at all.

Allie and Rex are always gonna always remember their wedding day, that’s for sure! What a crazy showdown and Allie had a cool sleuthing buddy in the form of the only non-uppity aunt she had. I’d love to see Aunt Ginny visit again sometime, she was pretty awesome. Thanks to her good island friends and sweet Rex, Allie and he got their happily ever after as planned. I didn’t want this book to end but as always, the excerpt of the next book at the end kinda serves as a little bridge to make the Mackinac magic last just a little longer. I can’t wait to read the next book!

Three Fudges and a Baby review

This is the twelfth book in the Candy-Coated Mysteries by Nancy CoCo and I was happy to see that it’s finally leading to what I’ve hoped would happen since the first book, which is gonna be in the next book. This and another cozy series inspired my love of Mackinac Island and a visit there in 2018.

Meanwhile, besties usually get married and have their babies before main characters, so that’s what Jenn was gearing up for in this installment, a baby. And Allie was juggling about a million things including an unexpected visit from her mom and Allie’s old high school boyfriend along with trying to prove Jenn’s doula’s innocence. Never a dull day at the McMurphy Hotel and Fudge Shop!

This has to be one of Allie’s craziest cases yet but hey, at least she didn’t end up stuck in a tunnel or a basement far but near, lol. I actually figured out the killer fairly early on and stuck with my guess while still enjoying the red herrings presented. Glad I stuck by my first choice because I was right. I liked the short and effective showdown, and to yay Allie for getting the evidence she needed as well. After twelve books, she’s getting really good at that!

I absolutely love what happened with Allie and Rex! They’ve been through so much in this series and it really came as no surprise. Carol and her senior book club ladies helped out again, but I believe Carol was happy to stay on the researching end instead of the action end! I always love how there’s a preview chapter for the next book included at the end, so of course I always devour that. I can’t wait for the next book now!

A Midsummer Night’s Fudge review

This is the tenth book in the Candy-Coated Mysteries by Nancy Coco and one of the series I always make sure I’m up to date on. If I had time to reread, this series would definitely be one of those I’d read again. It’s just so much fun reading about the real places my family and I visited on Mackinac–and it’s awesome to read the author’s notes about the real places or names she sometimes uses.

Allie and her senior friends (yep, she’s got her own posse much to Rex’s dismay lol) had a tough case and as the bodies started piling up with no answers in sight, even Rex and crew might’ve been willing to admit they needed help. Well, never out loud. 😉 I loved how Allie had to ride herd on Carol and Irma, her senior center friends, and it was so funny to hear her telling them the exact same things Rex was always trying to drill into her brain: don’t go out alone when there’s a killer loose! I’ve always liked Carol’s character ever since she became more of a constant in the story line and sleuthing helper along with Irma, her power walking buddy. Allie figured by keeping an eye on the seniors, it was the perfect excuse to go snooping!

I actually had the killer picked out pretty early, stuck with my choice, and I was happy to find out I was right for once! There wasn’t anything in particular early on that made me choose this person, kinda a sheer dumb luck thing, lol.

At least Rex and Allie were at a stage now where he wasn’t always getting on her case, and when he did he was gentler about it–and she didn’t get all defensive like she did in the past. She’s always gonna be Allie and do impulsive and uh yeah sometimes stupid things, but she seems to have more lives than a cat right now since this is the tenth book. Gotta love her for who she is and how much she loves her friends that’re really her adopted island family.

Being the tenth book, there’s been an ongoing theme about where Allie usually ends up tossed by the killer, and I had to giggle when she commented on it in the narrative because I’d just had that same idea!

I haven’t read the teaser chapter at the end, but I’m always eager to do that and keep it as a little treat for when I’m completely done. Even sight unseen, I’m always ready for the next book! Mackinac Island is one of my fave places to visit and I can’t wait to go back both physically and via this series!
